Long time ago
A great legend was born
By the Riverside,
A little charming soul.
She was a talented child,
Dancing all over town.
She started working so soon,
She had to grow up so fast.
Back then, being a black woman was hard,
But she was not one of those who gave up.
Raising her voice against injustice of all kind,
And fighting for her dreams with all her heart.
St. Louis left behind,
New York, end of the line.
Then her dancing feet
Took her to "Paris".
Touring , dancing, acting, singing,
Europe hails her swinging,
Saving from misery and giving hope,
Just like a female Pope!
"La justice! L'amour! La liberté!"
She was the queen of the "Champs Élysée"
A new war began and everything darkened,
She got involved and fought 'til the end
The artist spy, the fighting star, her memory remains,
A well deserved fame…
Josephine Baker was her name!
The meaning of her life,
Her main goal, her desire
Was to turn this world
Into a shiny rainbow.
Oh, Josephine!
